Almost...

I'm getting there. I fixed the eyes tonight, which made me feel a lot better about the whole thing - also changed the lips slightly, and finished painting the background.

I will probably work on this for another two sessions and then consider it done, before I become certifiably insane.

The Self Portrait continues...

Well, I took a bit of a hiatus last week, due to eye strain, laziness, and the holiday. I've almost got the whole thing covered, but man, there are so many things I want to do over that this painting may drive me insane. Hoping to finish this week. I swear, when this one's done, I'm going to do something abstract. Okay, not really, but definitely something sketchier...

Weekend Painting Extravaganza

This is what I did this weekend. I still have to do the hair, the headband, one ear, and a good amount of background. And, I'm probably going to end up working back into the face again because there's some things I'm not happy with.

I do have to say though, I am actually really enjoying painting in the bathroom. It's a tiny little nest with no distractions. And the space heater makes it very cozy!

Underpainting, Day Three - Finished!

Does listening to The Who make you a better painter? I don't know, but I do know that it helped me power through and finish this underpainting tonight. Still not totally happy with the drawing but I will fix it in the second pass. I swear I spent so much time "underpainting" the face that it's basically just, um, painted.

Underpainting, Day One and Two

This is two day's worth of underpainting...I really screwed up the face yesterday and spent most of today repairing that. Bah! It's still kind of muddy and needs some drawing adjustment, but, eh, it's a start.

Oh, and again, this photo is really bad, color wise. My photo editing program hates yellow, apparently.

Painting in the bathroom, continued

Tonight I did a poster study in preparation for the painting I'm about to start. This picture really doesn't accurately represent the colors at all - I'll try to take a photo outside tomorrow.

And just for fun I'm posting a picture of my bathroom so you can get a sense of what I'm dealing with as far as workspace. Pretty awesome, eh?

Self Portrait Preparatory Drawing

Man, I haven't posted in forever! I've been slacking for the past few weeks, so I haven't had anything new to share.

Here's the latest self portrait I just started. It's going to be an 8"x8" painting. It's my reflection in my bathroom medicine cabinet.

Keep in mind that my entire bathroom measures about 2 1/2 feet wide by 6 feet across, so squeezing my easel in there is...fun?
